Hi, guys. Today we’re going to try to put in a fancy hood vent over a counter stove. So the first thing we did was cover all the floor and the counters and.

Took pictures of where everything was. In case we move it, we can put it back and then I can go back to my phone and refer and look at it and put it back. So that’s something I recommend you do. So you don’t lose your carpet, don’t lose whatever fancy furniture or coverings on anything. It’s real important. So we’re going to go right in this area.

And most likely that light is not going to survive. They already know that probably going to take it down no matter what. All right. We’ll see as we go.

Three, two, one. Hey, guys. We’ve been going over the instructions, unpacking everything. We brought the hood in, so I would have to keep running back and forth to the garage and found out some things that where the hood is bigger than the range is. And so we took the range, found the center of it, took the size of the hood, leveled up, which I have four foot level there. Basically, I’m going to put the outline of the hood, which will actually be down here about 36 inches off of the range. And that way I could know where the center of this would be clearly in my head.

And then you got to keep in mind this bracket is one size wider than the other because the cover for the plastic vent is that way. It’s a ten and a quarter by 11 and a half, something like that. And then I made my centers and I made marks on the centers with this like a center to put it up here, transfer the line so I know where everything is located.

And I’m going to have to open up this area for the vent to go through. And hopefully we won’t hit a rafter. But if we do, we’ll have to support the rafters probably across this way and since the rafters go this way. Funny thing is, not only is the instructions pretty inadequate. No screws. So they ordered it special order and came with no screws.

So we’ll end up overcoming that obstacle. Right now we are pressing on. We’re going to cut this out. Drill holes here, here and here and we’re going to allow for the cord again, it didn’t really explain. But we’ve got to allow for cord to go through right there and we got to open up that area like that and then use a bunch of brackets. That’s the first step. Now, comes the messy step. Why we covered up everything and we’re on our way.

We’ve got a hole cut out here. And this rafter was in it, fortunately. And then, by the way, the screws were inside this vent all sealed up in plastic. So if you’re doing a Z-line hood vent and you can’t find the screws. They’re inside the tube. All right. That’s expandable.

Anyway, there’s plenty of room for it to go in and out right here so we don’t have to cut this. But we are going to put some supports in here for the screws to fastened to something. And the instructions are not very good, but they are instructions for some stuff I’ve been putting on a plastic awning yesterday that had nothing but it exploded view, no instructions on how to do it.

And believe me, it needed instructions. It was hard to deal with. But getting that extension cord hole right here, we actually drill a hole with a paddle bit through and I think we’ll have to take the cord off. Pan over there to Drew. And we’re taking the cord loose. We took pictures of it so we can put it back.

And I’m going to push the cord in and up up there and then down through this hole in the… We’ll reconnected as we’re putting it back up. That way, we don’t have to deal with a lot of hassle. Anyway, we’re moving on.

All right. So I had the, these lines, like I said, to check for square. So I was able to put this white base piece on first. All though, the instructions didn’t say that, fastened it on the outside and then put this over and matched that holds and fasten that and go in. I put in wood. It didn’t say to. They give you plastic anchors, which I want to suspend this much weight on the little plastic anchors in drywall or even in concrete. I would rather put in some in this case wood to support it.

And we’ll have to run electrical from this outlet to the side cord to plug it in May have to do some trimming to get that cord in end to end. I don’t know yet. We’ll see. Either way, we now have something pretty dadgum strongp The ceiling is not coming down on my 200 and something pounds, 260, so I feel pretty confident about that. Now we’re going to put these brackets that are adjustable on here, especially now that we’re so happy with finding the screws.

Go okay, there’s a funny looking gasket that Drew had a real hard time getting lined up. So imagine you have the same issue with others around this that sits here. It takes some time. Mind you, we also put the screws here. 16 screws seems to be all the same size and this will go into the adjustable ones that he’s putting on over here. All the same size screws. Lots of fun little tiny screws that get lost behind things.

All right. We’ve learned that putting the brackets out there was not the right thing to do. We had long brackets on here. This is not going to be needed for a long brackets. And so we put the short brackets off there on here, screw holes that line up very well. That’s okay. The short, wider one is on the bottom and then the other one here slides up. Not very easily and then you fastened the screws to that bracket up there. We also took the light down. Pan around over there and you can see the hole and I’m going to hook the plug.

That’s on this to the more that power, I can really turn it with a switch on and off if they want. And if they don’t like that. Then I’ll discont… I’ll get rid of that switch. Right now we’re getting ready to do the hard part, which is to put that thing in and that’s where we’re headed.

It was quite a journey to put that up. We’re at 35 and a half, which is 36, is the maximum height you want from the lid. I just didn’t want people to bump the head every time they leaned over or something, but the vents have a the. The cover has screws at the top and we still haven’t put the decorative crown mold type stuff on top. And we had to unwrap all the plastic.

This has controlled on both sides. That high speed. You got a piece of paper? These vents up here so I believe we need to leave them uncovered, because it seems to suck in a little bit on one side, the other little bit, I don’t know. But I’m not sure what the purpose is because it’s not connected to the ductwork.

A little bit of trouble right here. Pealing, so you probably want to peal this before you put the cover on it. It actually took three of us to do it proficiently. But you probably could do it with two people. One person you’d be struggling. Big time, you’d have to build up underneath it. Well, now we’re going to put the crown on it.

The final stage. We had a bear of a time. Putting the crown mold the dress up thing here. It has to have a gap along the outside edge of that flange, that it hooks on to here. And that was the real problem. But now we’ve got to fill in this area, these areas and we texture and paint, all that stuff. We may not make it today, but we’re going to make it look a little a little bit better.

And then those will probably go to the store and get all cleaned up and dressed up and everything’s functioning. We’re out the clean up. So there go.
