Buying a Mobile Home: Checking the Ridge Beams

Updated 1-8-23

The ridge beams hold the mobile home together and support it when it’s moving down the road. They run along the bottom of the mobile home on both sides to support the floors and walls.

Before you get ready to buy a mobile home, check out the ridge beams. The beam is 2×6 that runs along both sides of the mobile home. If they have rotted it:

  1. Cannot move down the road right
  2. Will start buckling and pulling apart the walls as the home travels
  3. The back side of the mobile home can collapse and fall off while on the road. This has happened.

Make sure you check it with your eyes or someone you trust looks at that area.
